Exactly a year ago at SXSW, we started taking behind-the-scenes disposable camera photos of The Masked Gorilla's travels and publishing them to our Tumblr. The project soon shifted from Tumblr, to a regular feature here on The Masked Gorilla. In the process we realized a handful of disposable camera projects existed before we started, and even more sprung up after. One of the more interesting projects we came across was @DisposableNYC.
DisposableNYC is an Instagram-based disposable camera project created by Alan Grunberg. Alan is a 24 year old born in Woodside Queens, and currently living in Bushwick, Brooklyn. New York through and through. He started the project 5 months ago, after selling his digital camera to help pay rent and, of course, buy disposable cameras in bulk online. He describes his vision as: "I'd say I shoot 70% graffiti, 20% general street photography, and 10% hanging out with friends, partying, etc. Wherever I go my eyes are constantly scanning for tags, stickers, any sort of vandalism- I can't turn it off."
With The Masked Gorilla being New York City based, we had to reach out to Alan and collab. So we sent him a box of TMG clothing samples, that we hand-screened ourselves in Brooklyn, to share with his friends and take photos of. You can check out all of those photos above, while you can visit the @DisposableNYC page here, and Alan's website here.
