For the past few years rumors circled around the skateboard industry that Fucking Awesome professional skateboarder Dylan Rieder was battling cancer. We would hear it was bad, we would hear it was in remission, we would hear it was coming back, we would hear he was filming a new part. We never knew what to believe, but we did know he wasn't well. Today, at the age of 28, Dylan Rieder has passed away after a 2 year battle with Leukemia. His manager issued the below statement.   "Dylan Joseph Rieder, Today, October 12th, 2016, surrounded by family and friends, Dylan Joseph Rieder passed away due to complications with Leukemia. His passion for life, art, music, fashion and skateboarding has always been contagious. Dylan will be remembered by all as a loving son, brother and friend. In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dylan’s memory to Dr. Stephen Forman. Please address checks to; City of Hope, in memo line: to Dr. Stephen Forman for Dylan Rieder. City of Hope Attention: Philanthropy 1500 E Duerte Rd. Duerte, CA 91010"   Growing up, Dylan was easily my favorite skateboarder. His style on the skateboard. His style off the skateboard. The way he talked. The music he listened to. The clothes he wore. His rings. His painted black nails. I had a serious man-crush on him. His Gravis pro-model shoe was my favorite shoe of all time, I wore it until my toes were coming out of the front. I can't even believe we'll never be waiting for a new video part, or pro shoe, from Dylan ever again. New skaters will come and go, some with similar style, but skateboarding will never be the same from here on out without Dylan Rieder. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family that knew the Dylan who was was more than just a skateboarder to all of us. Rest in peace.
