In early 2011, while Earl Sweatshirt was still at school in Samoa, The New Yorker published an interview with his mother which featured a direct quote from Earl that pleaded for Odd Future fans to end the "Free Earl" rallying call. At the time OF fans thought Earl was either brainwashed or that the quote was fabricated. Of course looking back on all of that now, it's evident that was in fact Earl's writing and thinking otherwise is ridiculous, but that's neither here nor there. Today The New Yorker published another piece on Earl, this time in the form of a video interview. The 19 year old rapper talks about inspiration, solidifying one’s identity, and what he’s (not) looking forward to.
