7 years. 17,000+ posts.  7 years ago today I started a website called DopeVideo88.BlogSpot.com on my mom's desktop computer. I was a high school senior, completely overwhelmed and lost in life. When I started the website 7 years ago, it didn't have a name or logo, Twitter and Instagram weren't even invented yet. I knew nothing about writing, websites, or anything. The website was horrible. My writing was cringe-worthy. But I was just lost in high school, in love with this emerging generation of hip hop, and desperately needed an outlet to maintain my sanity.  Over the course of the next few years I thought of a name, logo, direction, and Masked Gorilla started to take shape. I blogged on it every single day, saved up enough to buy my own computer and took it everywhere. I skipped class, didn't go out, didn't eat. It's scary to look back on it all now, how insanely dedicated I was to something that really hadn't been done before.  Over the course of those years Masked Gorilla discovered and showcased rappers who have now went on to become international superstars. In the process Masked Gorilla become one of the most popular hip hop websites in the world, the most respected platform for emerging talent. Somehow it worked out. Whether it's a website, or the UNMASKED stage, Masked Gorilla is a platform for artists everyone else ignores, a platform for fans to be apart of something bigger than themselves.  Even after these 7 years, after all we've accomplished, we're still the underdogs. But we're not going to stop kicking down doors any time soon.  We're working on a new website, merch and UNMASKED is coming back bigger than ever this summer. Masked Gorilla still feels like a brand new company, we've only accomplished a tenth of what we want to so far, our vision has never been bigger.  Thank you everyone who has ever clicked on the website, followed us, purchased our merch, came to a concert, treated Masked Gorilla as your own. Because just like your favorite emerging artist, we're just young kids chasing our dreams, and your support is crucial to making that happen. It's only getting crazier from here on out.
