For the past few months we've been following Chicago rapper, Chief Keef, waiting for a big development to break him onto the TMG pages. The sixteen year old MC, who was just released from house arrest for shooting at the police, has two breakout internet hits with "3HUNNA" and "I Don't Like". Keef has already received praise from Tyler, The Creator to Soulja Boy, but this most recent cosign will likely be the one which launches his young career.
Fakeshoredrive recently interviewed DJ Pharris, the DJ heard at the end of "Theraflu"/ Kanye West confidant. The DJ revealed that Chief Keef's new YouTube hit not only inspired Theraflu, but is Kanye's second favorite song right now only rivaled by "Paris".
FSD: So I heard a rumor that “Theraflu” was heavily influenced by Chief Keef and the new rappers bubbling in Chicago. Any truth to that?
DJ Pharris: Well, Kanye is watching what’s going on in Chicago right now. He’s definitely watching what these guys are doing pretty closely. He talked to me about it, and we had a pretty big conversation about what’s going on here right now. He sees the movement and power these young kids have. I don’t know if they totally inspired the record, but I do know that he likes what is coming out of Chicago right now.
With that cosign it's no question that Chief Keef is the buzzing young rapper of the moment, but it will be interesting to see how and if he will maintain this attention. First it was Drake, than Wiz Khalifa, Tyler, The Creator and A$AP Rocky, but now it's looking like Chief Keef will be that "it" new school rapper.
