Kendrick Lamar, myself, & ScHoolboy Q using a TMG shirt as a blanket
In just a few hours, Kendrick Lamar's debut album 'good kid m.A.A.d city' will officially be available for purchase on iTunes and in stores. To celebrate the release, we're bringing back an exclusive freestyle Kendrick Lamar spit for us, well before he rose to mainstream fame.

In April of 2010, months before the release of his breakout project 'Section.80', Kendrick flew from California, across the country, to perform at two New York colleges in the same day. I met up with Kendrick at his second concert, which was at a very small arts school. A few hours before he hit the stage, we filmed a video interview with in small community room. After the interview finished, we asked Kendrick if he wanted to spit a freestyle for us. He said, sure just give me a few minutes. We spent the next hour backstage eating, talking about Lil B and drawing on the chalkboard. Growing restless, Kendrick and a friend/ little known rapper he brought along for the trip (ScHoolboy Q) called their respective girlfriends on speaker phone to put them on blast.
As Kendrick's set time grew nearer, we all (Kendrick, ScHoolboy, & their DJ) pilled into a mini-van, and drove across the small campus to the venue. Kendrick performed for, at most, 75 fans, while only about 10 actually knew who he was. After Kendrick's set was over, my camera battery was dead from filming the concert on stage for Kendrick. We filled into a back room, where Kendrick calmly asked me for feedback of his performance. After we briefly spoke about that, he said: alright you want that freestyle now? With my camera battery dead from all the filming, I pulled out my iPhone and pointed it at Kendrick.
He went on to spit the above freestyle, which months later appeared as a verse on 'Section.80' as "Poe Man's Dream (His Vice)."
