Early Thursday morning, 15-year-old Mateo Ysmael woke up to the smell of smoke creeping through his bedroom walls. He immediately notified his family and other residents of the apartment complex. "I just ran and got my stepmom, and told her I thought the place was on fire," the 15-year-old said. "Then I went and got my little brother and my two sisters. We got out of there quick. Then I pounded my neighbor's door." That next door neighbor happened to be The Based God, who was sleeping as his apartment complex was preparing to go up in flames. The fire, presumed to be started by an electrical issue, started in the garage of the unit Mateo was sleeping above. Lil B told the local newspaper some of his costumes and music were damaged, but overall he was just happy to be alive and well. On top of what he told reporters, Lil B took to a couple of his social media platforms to reflect.
