Wait, this sounds awfully familiar. Last month the music industry was in shock when hip hop legend Lord Finesse filled a $10 million lawsuit against Mac Miller over a mixtape sample. Well today, another lawsuit over a sample is upon Miller, this time over a Macadelic song.
The suit was filed by an artist named Patrick Berlinquette, who also goes by Warm Speakers. He claims that his song "The World Around You," which was copyrighted in 2011, was stolen by Miller for use on Macadelic's "Fuck 'Em All."
In the lawsuit, Berlinquette states that "[Miller] uses other people’s music because it’s easier, cheaper, and faster than creating his own." It continues: "Miller seeks to capitalize on the common misconception in Copyright Law that people whose music he takes have no remedy if he gives their music away for free."
