10 years ago I started a website called Masked Gorilla on my mom’s computer to write about the only thing I’ve ever cared about, music. I remember taking the train to a Kendrick Lamar interview I had set up. It was about a year before he released his breakout project ‘Section.80.’ A digital camera in my pocket and a plastic tripod sticking out of my backpack, nerves nearly taking over, every stop the train made on the hour long trip I had to stop myself from getting off and going home. I’ve published 20,000 articles and produced hundreds of interviews over the past 10 years about artists, who at the time, no one knew. 5 years ago I started the UNMASKED Concert Series because venues didn’t want to take a risk on the artists I cared about. I remember talking to the $uicideboy$, convincing them to let me produce their first headlining concert. My savings on the line, waking up in the middle of the night in cold sweats wondering if the tickets would sell. I’ve produced over 20 concerts with artists who even the venue owners didn’t know at the time. The tickets always sold out. I’ve established incredible relationships with artists over the years by not asking how I could benefit, but instead asking how I could be of service. As my insight grew, my drive to help and influence artists careers in a more major way grew as well. A decade later, I never got off the train. Today I am proud to announce the next step. I have partnered with Warner Records to launch the new joint-venture record label, Masked Records. I’m thankful to Max Lousada, Aaron Bay-Schuck, Tom Corson, Jeff Sosnow and the entire Warner team for having the vision and integrity to create a progressive environment to best serve the artists who have trusted us with their music.
