A few days ago we introduced you to YBN Nahmir and his song "Rubbin Off The Paint." In just those few days the music video for the song has already racked up over 100,000 views. The song, which literally started to gain traction just this very weekend, leaves the 17 year old Alabama rapper with a potential viral hit on his hands. But tomorrow is Monday, and he has to go to high school.     A few minutes ago I called up Nahmir to talk about the song that's poised to be the next viral rap hit, how it all came together on a 50 dollar microphone with his mom's sock over it, and what he wants to do next. You can read our conversation below.   How old are you and where are you from? "I'm 17 and from Birmingham, Alabama."   What does your name mean, exactly?  "Oh, you talking about my stage name Nahmir? Shit, it's a funny ass story to that shit. Back in the day, in 2013/ 2014, I used to be one of them gaming type of niggas, you feel me? Like this is where a nigga hopped off the porch at and all that bro. Niggas used to be on Xbox and shit. You probably heard of his nigga K-Mort, he been rapping and shit, so I used to look up to bro he's like my big brother and shit. And he got a twin brother named Nassir. This nigga K-Mort real name Shamir. I'm like wait, hold up, that shit sound cold as hell you feel me. I'm like "hey bro, I'm put that shit together since my real name start with an "N," my real name Nick, so I'm like fuck it we thuggin' call me Nahmir from now on. So I just stuck with that shit, because we were famous on that Xbox shit. We used to do little GTA V videos and all that, fucking with RMG and all them niggas."   Yeah, I actually heard from someone that you used to freestyle on the GTA V live stream and that's how you started to get a following.  "Oh hell yeah, that's mainly how I got started off. And a nigga named Cap God and all them. And RMG Remy, he be shooting Rico Nasty's videos. Yeah, that's big bro. I used to fuck with them heavy. That's how mostly everyone I know, we started off on this Xbox shit together and now we're just all starting to blow up."    Wait, so are you still in high school? "Yeah, I'm still in high school. I'm a senior."   School started already?  "Hell yeah school started a couple months back."   How's it feel to be in high school and your song is blowing up? Are kids treating you different? How's it going? "I don't even know my nigga. I ain't even been back to school since it started blowing up. I'm going Monday though, I'm going tomorrow shit."   Are you planning on staying for your senior year? What's your move? "Shit, I'm just gonna be cool bro. I don't know bruh, I just gotta feel it. We gonna see. I'm gonna let you know what happen after that shit, you feel me."   Do you still live at home? "Yeah I live with my momma and shit."   Does you mom support what you're doing with the music?  "Oh hell yeah. Yeah. 100% on my momma. My momma my number one fan foreal though."   Shit, you gotta get it how you live. I been recordin wit a blue snowball w/ a sock over it this whole time 🏎😂💡 pic.twitter.com/elekh8YgJT — YBN NAHMIR (@nahmir205) September 15, 2017   That's so tight. I was on Twitter that you put up a picture of your microphone... there's like a sock over it. So what's your recording situation like right now?  "Shit bro my shit fucked up, I ain't even gonna lie to you. 7-8 months ago I was recording with a Rockband mic. I was recording with a Rockband mic so my shit was fucked up, like most people know my song "Mob Sticks" like I recorded that shit with a little Rockband mic. But 4 or 5 months ago I went to BestBuy and copped a "Blue Snowball." Them shits ass I heard, but I was like "fuck it we thuggin'." I only had $50 at the time, so, you feel me I ain't have no money for no pop-filter or none of that. I went in my momma room I was like "aye mom you got some socks up in here?" She only had some Christmas socks. I put a Christmas socks smooth over that bitch, used it as a pop-filter you can tell that bitch sound good as hell. I know how to mix my own music. Don't nobody mix my shit. Yeah, you gotta search up YouTube tutorials for all of that. You see that song I just did? I mixed that myself. I use Mixcraft 8 and all that."   You've been recording and uploading songs on Soundcloud for at least a year at this point. Why do you think that "Rubbin Off The Paint" is the one to start going viral?  "The video! You feel me? The video and the vibe to that shit. All my other songs I just did audio, but when they seen that video and they seen how a nigga look? You feel me? Aye, I'm not fronting my moves either. Niggas know I got the pose. I ain't ever lacking. We ain't gonna speak on that but aye, just know a nigga getting it."   You're pretty young right now. Who are some rappers that you grew up on, or are inspired by now?  "I ain't really listen to that many people when I grew up. I listen to people. but it was on the radio. But now, the people I really look up to who I'd love to work with, I'd love to work with all the Shooter Gang niggas. You know Mozzy? I fuck with Mozzy the long way. Shoutout Zay. I fuck with the Bay Area. I be out in Oakland a lot. I fuck with everyone out there. And OMG Peezy, he's from Mobile, Alabama so of course I'm gonna support that nigga."   I saw that Chris Brown posted your video on Instagram. Who are some other famous people that have been hitting you up so far?  "Shit Chris Brown, that nigga cold as hell for that. PNB Rock hit me up, I was like "damn oh shit it's real." You want me to tell the story on that shit?"   Let's hear it.  "I was about to do a video shoot yesterday. We're coming from the Galleria, the mall. We pull up to Wendy's, about to get something to eat for the video shoot. All the girls pinna show up for the video shoot. I'm letting them get on Instagram Live while I'm finna eat my food. Next thing you know they saying "Aye, Nick PNB Rock in your shit!" I was like "Huh?" I thought they was playing. I was like "Damn he really just hit me up! That's cold as hell." So I DM'd bro and he was like "Your shit fire!" So I fuck with him, he's the big bro."   This song is obviously going to continue to go viral. It's going to have a million plays soon. So if you could put anyone on the remix, who would it be?  "Uhhh, on the remix? I could see a bunch of people on it. But the people I listen to don't really rap like that. But the people that do rap like that, I could see Duwop Kaine or Playboi Carti on that shit."   Famous people are hitting you up. The songs about to go viral. Have labels already started to hit you up?  "Yeah we... just know a bunch of people hit me up. We ain't gonna speak on that right now."   Fuck. Congrats. What's your plan for the next month as this song continues to go viral?  "You mean what do I plan on doing in the next month? To be honest, with the type of spirit that I got I always expect myself to do better. In a month I expect myself to be in the hills I ain't even gonna lie to you."   Ok so, a year from now. Where do you see yourself?  "A year from now? Shit we still gonna be in the hills... in the bigger hills."     Keep Up With YBN Nahmir: Twitter | Instagram | Soundcloud
